Luis Daniel Perez was more than a beloved brother, son, family member, and friend. He was a light in the lives of those who knew him — someone whose presence, smile, determination, and heart left an impact that words can never fully capture. In December 2021, our lives changed forever when we lost Luis to suicide. His absence is deeply felt, but so is his legacy.Running was one of Luis’s greatest passions. From his early elementary school years through college, running became part of who he was—a reflection of his strength, determination, discipline, and love for being part of a community.Laps for Luis was created from both heartbreak and love. What began as a way to honor Luis has become something much bigger — a place where our community can come together to remember, to heal, to support one another, and to remind people that every life matters.
This is more than a 5K.
It is a race in memory of Luis.
It is a walk for those we have lost.
It is a gathering for the families who carry grief.
It is a message of hope for anyone who may be struggling silently.
And it is a reminder that no one should ever feel that they have to face their darkest moments alone.
Through Laps for Luis, we hope to create conversations about mental health, raise awareness for suicide prevention, and help break the silence and stigma that too often keep people from asking for help.
Every runner, every walker, every volunteer, every sponsor, and every person who stands along the course becomes part of Luis’s legacy.
After covering the necessary expenses to host the event, the remaining proceeds are donated to local organizations that provide mental health services, suicide prevention programs, and meaningful support to individuals and families in our community.
Luis may no longer be running beside us, but his story continues with every step we take.
We run for Luis.
We walk for those we have lost.
We stand for those who are still fighting.
And together, we choose hope.
is to honor the life and legacy of Luis Daniel Perez by raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention, by bringing our community together through the annual Laps for Luis 5K and Lap for Life Walk, and supporting local organizations that provide professional mental health programs and resources.
